Throughout my experience at clinicals I have had the pleasure of taking care of many patients that all had different needs and desires while in the hospital. I have enjoyed taking care of each single patient that I have had so far. But I must highlight for this assignment that I had a great experience with and that I feel I made a positive impact on their life and their time in the hospital. With this patient, I spent a lot of time talking to them trying to get to know them as much as possible. This was my first day of clinical, so we weren’t told to do any assessments yet, so I just tried to talk to my patient as much as possible because it is important as a nurse to communicate with your client because it makes them feel more comfortable with you. This patient did not have many visitors in their stay in the hospital due to their family being from a different state, so I knew it would benefit them very much if they just had somebody to talk to besides their nurse that they see every day, just another person that they can talk to means the world for some people and in this case it did. I knew I made a huge impact on this patient’s day and their stay in the hospital because I just saw the biggest smile on their face the entire time that we spent together and they were very appreciative of me, constantly thanking me for taking the time out of my day to talk them. It was very beneficial to them because they felt that they finally had somebody to care for them that wasn’t their nurse. And since their family did not visit often, they would get sad and start to feel alone. Its important for patients to feel that they are cared for because this will increase their self-esteem and their desire to get better.
