Peer Review

This learning outcome is focused on the ability to critically read a peer’s project and make constructive suggestions for change, in addition to the ability to evaluate one’s own work and identify opportunities for specific improvement.  In the paragraphs that follow, I will describe my peer editing process using perspectives (ideas, claims) and the explanation of text’s relationship to them.  In addition to local editing with signal phrases and in text citations, I also followed the writer’s thesis to the conclusion.

Having a peer edit my essay was useful because it provided me with constructive criticism that I could use to improve my essay. The peer edits also provided me with a fresh perspective that helped make sure I was staying on track with my topic of the essay. The major area that was identified to me by my peer editing partner was clearing up some of my claims and phrases and making sure I was staying on track with my topic. I took this advice and went back to focus on the key points that my peer editing partner had pointed out. It is very hard to stay on topic when writing a large essay like this so my partner was very helpful in pointing out in my essay when I would When I write other papers in the future, I will definitely keep this in mind and use it to help me stay focused.

Editing another classmate’s work hopefully helped them out in the editing of their essay. I hope I was very helpful in providing edits to their work from a person who hasn’t read it yet. Thinking critically about their work helped me to understand their perspective and to think about their claims that they are trying to state. At the same time, it helped me to understand more about my own paper. When I looked at my own paper, I noticed that I found some of the same issues that I found in my partners paper, so I was able to go back and change those issues.
