The event I chose to attend for this assignment was Clinical and Community Impact of Violent Crime. I chose this event because gun violence has become is now a very common act that we see here in the United States so I wanted to learn more about what nurses can do to have an impact on these horrific acts. In this event Darcie McElwee the United States Attorney for the District of Maine was brought on to discuss certain topics and share her opinion on the matter. Also, Timothy Longo, the Police Chief of the University of Virginia was brought on to discuss and give his advice over his 40 years of experience in law enforcement and violent crimes.
While attending this event I was able to gather a lot of information about what my role would be as a nurse while caring for someone. It would be my responsibility as the nurse to provide daily living needs for these patients. Making sure I provide daily hygiene needs and doing whatever I can to make sure the clients’ self-esteem is up and they are feeling positive about themselves. What I have learned about the interprofessional team in providing patient care is that as the nurse it will be my responsibility to care for the patients’ mental needs and doing whatever I can to make sure they are feeling better about themselves after going through whatever incident that they went through.
Thanks for sharing.
