After attending the class on Forensic Nursing, I was very impressed and excited about what I had just learned. What I was most impressed about from the class was the fact that nurses can have direct care on patients who are victims of various crimes. This was exciting to me because it opened up a whole new look of nursing in my eyes. Forensic nurses have a very big impact on these patients, they are going through the toughest time of their lives and these nurses are the ones that are comforting them and making them feel safe and that was the part I was amazed about. This class has changed my view and thinking about patient care. Before this class I just thought that nurses would just care for the sick population. Now I know that nurses have direct care for the patients that go through horrific events and have the ability to comfort them or can even collect medical evidence and can provide expert testimony that can be used in court.
This class has provided me with a lot of new information about what nurses are capable of. I do believe that I have developed an interest in becoming a Forensic nurse. I wanted to become a nurse because I love to help those in need and now, I know that there is a whole different level to helping these patients. To be the nurse that is caring for a victim of violence, abuse and sexual assault is very special because these patients just went through the most dramatic moment in their lives, and they are seeking care and comfort immediately.
